What is a Section 49 Notice?
The purpose of this notice is to advise you of the valuation placed on the property as at 01 July 2022, determined during the General Valuation 2022 conducted under the provisions of the Municipal Property Rates Act of 2004.
What should you do?
If you are satisfied that the figure on the Supplementary Valuation Roll represents the market value of your property as at 01 July 2022; you need not take any action.
Should you feel that your property has been over- or under valued, you may lodge what is called an “objection”. Legislation makes ample provision for you to object to an entry in a General Valuation roll, provided that such an objection takes place in the prescribed manner and within the prescribed period. An objection will be considered by the Municipal Valuer and the Valuation Appeal Board, should a property owner wish to appeal against the findings of the Municipal Valuer.
You can object by completing and handing in the prescribed form together with any information you have to support of your objection.
